CBSE Board Exams 2025: Must-Know FAQs for Class 10 & 12 Students

CBSE Board Exams 2025: Key Information Every Student Must Know

New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will commence the Class 10 and 12 board examinations on 15th February, with all exams starting at 10:30 AM. To help students navigate their board exams with confidence, here are answers to the most frequently asked questions:

1. Does failing in pre-board exams mean I cannot appear for the Board exam?

No. Pre-board exams are only a self-assessment tool to help students gauge their preparation. If you meet the eligibility criteria, failing a pre-board does not prevent you from appearing in the final Board exams.

2. Are pre-board marks included in the final Board results?

Not at all. Pre-board exam scores are not added to your Board examination marks.

3. Are marks deducted for exceeding the word limit or for spelling mistakes?

While exceeding the word limit doesn’t lead to mark deductions, spelling, and grammatical errors can impact scores, especially in language papers.

4. Will questions in the board exam come from the sample paper?

Sample papers familiarise students with the question format but do not dictate the actual exam questions. The Board exam covers the entire syllabus, so comprehensive preparation is crucial.

5. Are there specific chapters that can help score better marks?

CBSE does not recommend selective study. To score well, students should study the entire syllabus and grasp key concepts thoroughly.

6. What if my writing speed is slow?

To improve writing speed, practice regularly. During the exam, organize your thoughts before writing, use bullet points when necessary, and never leave a question unanswered.

7. If I fail in theory, do I have to retake the practical exam too?

No. If you pass the practical exam, your marks will be carried forward, and you only need to reappear for the theory exam.

8. If I drop a year, which syllabus will I follow?

You will need to study the syllabus prescribed for the year in which you reappear for the exam.

9. Can I improve my performance after passing Class 10 or 12?

Yes! Students can reappear for improvement in:

  • One subject (Class 12) in the supplementary exam
  • Up to two subjects (Class 10) in the supplementary exam
  • Any number of subjects in the next academic year

10. How many times can I appear in the supplementary exam?

Students can reappear in:

  • July/August (same year)
  • February/March/April (next year)
  • July/August (next year) for a third and final attempt

11. What are the passing criteria for Class 12?

Students must pass five subjects, securing at least 33% marks separately in theory, internal assessment, project, or practical exams.

12. Can I appear together for an improvement exam and an additional subject?

No. Students cannot appear for both simultaneously.

13. What if I’m unhappy with my marks?

CBSE allows students to request:

  1. Verification of marks
  2. A photocopy of the evaluated answer book
  3. Re-evaluation
Applications must be submitted within the CBSE’s specified time frame, along with the required fee.

14. Can marks increase or decrease after verification or re-evaluation?

Yes. Marks can increase or decrease based on the actual evaluation. Students must accept the revised result.

15. Will I receive a new marksheet after re-evaluation?

Yes. A new Marksheet-cum-Certificate will be issued only if marks change after re-evaluation. The old mark sheet must be surrendered.

16. How can I reappear in Board exams if I fail?

Students who fail Class 10 or 12 can reappear as private candidates or re-enroll as regular students in school.
