Nalanda University was established in 2010 to emulate the ancient university and is an international university supported by 18 member countries of the East Asia Summit

The university's campus is located in Rajgir, about 90 kilometers northeast of Patna, the capital of Bihar.
The campus is designed to be a sustainable and green campus, and it is powered by renewable energy sources.
The new campus of Nalanda University was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 19, 2024.
